Personal Profile

Professor Hongyang Wang is a chief physician, doctoral supervisor, and an expert in oncology and molecular biology. She is also an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and an academician of Academy of Sciences of Developing Countries. She is currently the director of the National Center for Liver Cancer and the International Cooperative Biological Signal Transduction Research Center. Professor Wang is also the president of Women Scientists Association of China Association for Science and Technology, the vice chairman of China Anti-cancer Association, and the chairman of Precision Medicine Committee of Chinese Medical Association. She has been engaged in the basic and clinical research of cancer for more than a decade. She has already made important achievements in deciphering the mechanism of the transformation of cancer from inflammation, the regulation of tumor associated signal network and the development of diagnostic reagents for liver cancer. She has published more than 200 SCI papers in international influential mainstream journals. In the past five years, Professor Wang and her team has applied for 28 invention patents, 12 of which have already been authorized (3 international patents). The glypican-3 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) diagnostic kit has been approved for clinical application by China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), which is the first diagnostic kit of HCC in China with complete independent property rights. She has also successfully hosted more than a dozen major and key National and Provincial science and technology projects.
Research Interests
She is mainly engaged in the basic and clinical research of malignant tumors, including the pathogenesis of hepatobiliary tumors, the molecular mechanism of inflammation to cancer transformation, regulation of cell signal transduction networks, tumor functional genomics and tumor metabolism as well as the research and development of early diagnosis markers for tumors.
Honors and Awards
Due to the excellent work, her team has won the Innovation Team of National Science and Technology Progress Award. She has been awarded with many prizes, such as the second prize of National Natural Science Prize, the first prize of Natural Science Prize in Shanghai, first prize of Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Prize etc. Professor Wang has also been granted with honors such as 'Shanghai top ten scientific and technological elite 'and' outstanding academic leaders 'in Shanghai. She is also the winner of Amory Pacific distinguished female scientist award and Women Innovation Award etc. Served in the military, she has also been awarded the first, the second and the third class merit respectively for her excellent service.
